Is there a Contax SLR which would be a close match to a Nikon FM2? All mechanical except for a meter, bullet proof body, small in size. Anything like that?

Thanks!

I prefer a lens not body and whatever your fm2 is tank like , it cant beat contax with zeiss lens.

But I never knew of any body that is bullet proof and bullet proof which could take a bullet and still survive doesn't mean it would be reliable under normal use.

I own a contax s2 and i'm ok with it. I've never used nikon fm2 but i guess it's a very good and solid camera. The equivalen within contax/yashica bayonet would be a S2/S2B. But the're bloody expensive.....With those prices you may consider to buy Zeiss lenses for your nikon (ZF)

Also worth consideration is the FX-3 Super 2000.

Tony, you're right! I have collected so many Contax bodies I forgot I have a brown-snakeskin Yashica FX-3 deep in the camera cupboard somewhere. I'm 99% certain the battery is only for the LED meter and nothing else. Fully mechanical. I'm going to go dig it up and check. Oh, and cheap too. I paid $75 for mine and only due to its fine shape and nifty snakeskin cover. I totally overpaid. Otherwise I think they can be had for $25-50 USD usually...or cheaper.

My only C/Y camera is the Contax 159MM. It is probably my favorite 35mm SLR, but I don't use it as much as my Canon F-1n or A-1 because I have so many more Canon lenses. Zeiss gets expensive in a hurry!

Yashica FX3 is a nice alternative
It's light, albeit, plasticky

Here's my FX-3. Just checked and all speeds work with no battery.

This is why I keep it as a backup to my RX, AX, RTS and RTSII!

But seriously, through the years I've had issues with all but the RTSII and the FX-3.

Back when my dad did camera repairs, the most often cameras he saw in the C/Y mounts were 137MDs and 137MAs (plastic shutter parts would crack under heavy pro use) and RTSIIs
I guess this was due to their popularity
