Contax TVS with Infrared Film?

Hi,

I have a number of rolls of infrared film stored up in the freezer, and I'm wondering if there's any reason I can't try them out in a Contax TVS. I recently took some Rollei 400 and Ilford SFX in an OM2SP and while they came out fine, the inability to see the composition is frustrating (using the Hoya 72 filter). I have a 30.5-37mm step ring so could get a 37mm IR filter but am wondering if it would work with the camera. I also have some color infrared from the Film Photography Project which can be used with a yellow filter (which I have to fit the TVS), but would prefer not to waste it if there's any issue with using it in an automatic camera like the TVS. Thanks if anyone has any experience with this.

I have a TVS and it can be used in different modes and manual focus. I recall from a number of years ago my 35mm slr lenses had a red line to refocus to for infrared. I'm not sure how you could do that with the TVS. I don't know if the IR filter precludes refocusing. Maybe an internet search will get you the information you need.

I would be worried about the film check window. Also a Data back may foul the image. But I have no specific experience as I use a 1970 TLR to avoid those things. Good Luck

Many cameras of this type use infrared light to sense film movement. This would seriously fog an IR-sensitive film.

Thanks everyone, actually it doesn't have a data back so that's one positive (my Konica Hexar AF, which does have a film window, has a complicated infrared film setting, but I covered the window with aluminum tape and it worked fine with Rollei 400). I just am wondering mainly if it uses the infrared light sensor to advance the film. Maybe if I google it I can find out. I just realized that I have a 37mm infrared filter which I probably bought used from KEH, so I will look into this further. Thanks again.

ETA: I looked on Flickr and found that a guy posted a photo using a TVS II with SFX so it looks like it will work. I imagine if you stop down and manual focus it's possible (though I see it does have a film window, but I will try covering it). Thanks all.
