Hello there,

I had a problem with my Contax T2 where the frame counter went back to zero about mid roll apparently no reason. I kept shooting thinking I would be able to take all the exposures regardless. However upon developing the roll I realised the camera kind of skipped 20. Attached is a picture of the summary. And obviously I have not taken the missing exposures at all.

Is this the frame counter that’s having an issue? Does anyone have an idea ?
I have now loaded another one to test the behaviour hoping it won’t represent itself.

Is this the first roll through the camera? Can you sent it back? Or maybe get another and keep that one for parts. I have boxes of P&S cameras, some work and some don't.

Hi,

this is not the first roll, the 3rd one actually. Unfortunately I can't send it back as the "warranty" which the camera came along with (provided by the shop) recently expried.

You say the counter reset about mid roll. According to the summary of the roll the camera worked properly for 14 exposures, did not expose for 20 frames, then exposed for 3 frames. Despite what the counter did the film kept moving through the camera. If the film had stopped moving then started again there would be different results on the summary card.
There is a service manual for the T VS which is similar to the T2 https://learncamerarepair.com/downloads/pdf/CONTAX-TVS Repair-Manual.pdf
T2 instruction manual https://www.cameramanuals.org/contax/contax_t2.pdf
Now the counter displays various information depending on the mode the camera is being used in. Check the battery compartment and battery. The contact at the bottom of the battery compartment may be pushed down resulting in poor contact. Check the back for a tight fit when closed. Although there are no light leaks a loose fit may cause a back closed switch to show a back open condition when it does not exists. Look closely at the edge of the back opening on the body for a lever that may be bent and not contacting the back when closed.
A good repair shop may service a camera that "recently" went out of warranty as if it were still in warranty so ask them.

Hi there,

thanks for your response. I will check everything immediatly. Only one thing with regards of the battery comparment (and the battery itself): I semm to remember the counter uses non volatile memory, which would lead me thinking (I am just guessing) that a momentarily failure in the battery compartment should not affect the frame counter?

Cheers for now
