So I recently bought an As-Is Contax T for a really low price. I didn't have too much hope it'd work, but to my surprise it powers on. The LED lights up in the VF and the shutter fires. That's where the good news ends though.
It seems that no matter the light conditions or ISO setting, the camera meters any scene as extremely dark. Even pointed directly at the sun with 1000iso and F2.8 selected, the LED in the VF shows the shutter as being <1/30. As a result, the shutter speed is always extremely long...in the 6-8s range.
This leads me to believe it's not a sticky shutter issue...since the LED is showing a slow shutter speed will be used. It seems like there must be an issue with the meter itself. I'm wondering if perhaps the cell window is fogged or obstructed and if so, if there's anyway to easily access it to see.
Of note is the fact that occasionally it will pick a shutter speed that seems more appropriate...but this happens rarely.
Any other thoughts as to what could be causing the problem? Like I said, I didn't pay much...but after holding the camera I'd really love to get it working.
