The Contax Body; or a Novel
I am interested in the lens. What do you want for the body?
thanks!
Gordon
Hi Gordon,
Thank you for your interest - here is my little write up on the body.
I added the Contax body as an afterthought – that being that it might be something to attach the lens to if the buyer was interested in having a conversation piece. I’ve had a few inquiries as to its condition, how much I would want for it, etc. Hence, I am writing this novel:
The body is in PARTS condition, and that’s the best way to describe it. I bought it from a seller who “didn’t know much about cameras”. When I got the camera (which came with a nice collapsible, which I’m keeping with my working body) it was evident that I had erred when I thought I could fix whatever ailed it. Most Contax’s I have seen over the years have suffered from slow-speed hang-ups, maybe a little haze in the VF…this one was not one of those.
The advance knob is stuck solid; the viewfinder is badly separated and hazy, and the RF is off on both axes. There is corrosion on the outside, in the film chamber, on the shutter curtains. I used Oleson’s Tech Notes to explore further and discovered rust on most every gear. The environment that this was stored in was not kind.
The real kicker is that the previous owner, probably in frustration, forced the advance knob and ripped the second curtain from its silk straps. Once I saw that I knew my folly was total; I reassembled it, put it on the shelf, and vowed to ask more questions next time.
So, I think
$15-20 dollars would be a fair offer on a camera body for parts or display – that would be what it would cost to put in a box and send it with the lens (plus a little extra for my damaged ego).
TL/DR: The Contax body is PARTS/DISPLAY ONLY. Add $15-20 to the price of the lens if you want it.
