For some reason my shutter stopped working on my G2. Batteries are fresh, display looks fine, even the sound the camera makes when I press the shutter button sounds fine, but the thing will not open. Was wondering if anyone has had a similar situation with a contax g2 and where I should maybe have it sent to be repaired, if at all? The thing that has me stumped is the first roll i shot through didnt come out, but on the 2nd roll photo #1 didnt come out but the next 5 did and then after that they all went blank again. So the shutter showed brief signs of life. Any help would be tremendously appreciated.

The G2s are known to stop working all of a sudden. I have one, too, and I'm holding my breath. TADCO MIGHT fix them.

Nippon Photo Clinic, in New York. They have a website. I've had problems with moisture and contacts with AF . . .but if you hear the shutter trip, hm.

I still shoot a frame here and there with the lens cap on. Is this a possibility?

Isn't that the symptom of a flaky shutter button switch? Typically bad contact but could also be the switch is mechanically bad.
There a couple of DIY articles online and access is easy BUT. theres a flex that's easy to tear and not much room in there.
I had one that sounded like it was working right but no shutter operation and no advance.

Rich, definitely not. I'm pretty ocd about taking the cap on and off and knowing where it is at all times. Ultimately I decided to package up my camera and Im going to ship it to Nippon and see what they say. Honestly, even if they get it in 100% working order, I'll probably sell it and use the money for a hasselblad 500cm. The electronics in this camera scare me.

Mikey, I feel the same way (sort of). I went all in with the 21mm lens, love the damn thing but concerned about the long-term serviceability of the camera, so I picked up a green label G1 as a backup.

Yah, Yah, I have a green label G1 too, bought new. That's my insurance, too.

Nippon Photo Clinic in NYC recently serviced my G2, just an overhaul and cleaning, though. Very happy with them.
