The Contax G2 has an exposure compensation dial that can be set in ⅓-EV increments within a range of +2EV to -2EV. Can this be coordinated to filter factors?

it can be. the G1/G2 has thru the lens metering, so if you want you can use auto exposure, meter thru the lens and not need to use exp comp unless you wish to add or subtract from what the camera decides. I find that the meter does a good job for average scenes and does need to use exp comp. shoot a test roll for yourself to see if you need any

+1, always use autoexposure with filters on (no correction), did not see issues with it.
Except for IR filter (Heliopan 715), had to manually set the exposure.

Since the 16mm lens does not allow TTL metering, you can set it to +2 when using the 16mm center filter. With other lenses, the exposure is metered through the lens and filter.

With the Contax 21mm through 90mm lenses you can also mentally calculate the filter factor and adjust the EI setting. This is offers you slightly more accuracy (or precision?) than half stop adjustments using the EV+/- compensation level which allows only half stops, if this matters to you.

Basically, adjusting the EV+/- will appeal more to perfectionists or the more mathematically inclined (Iam both).

Either system will give about the same results. Playing with the EI suits me best as I limit my filters to UV, yellow, green and orange. Contax G filters came in a limited range (UV, H1, K2, that's about it) and cost a small fortune to buy, I use Nikkor 52mms with a 52 to 46 step down ring. I do not recall ever having used a red filter. I really must try one soon (if only to say I did).
