When I shoot 35mm, I usually shoot 36 exposure because that is often all that is available. While I'm not hyper anal about getting as many frames as possible out of my rolls, I do shoot until the film runs out, rather than rewinding prematurely. Most brands give me 37 or sometimes 38 exposures, some brands like Foma will usually give me 38 or sometimes 39 exposures.

After developing rolls I stick them in PrintFile 6 exposure by 7 strip negative sleeves. I haven't done contact sheets before, and have generally used scanning and Lightroom (or Aperture before that) to give me previews before printing. I'd like to get into automatically printing a contact sheet, but does anyone make sheets the right size to work with the PrintFile 6 by 7 sleeves? If not, what is your solution to this dilemma?

Given that those sheets are about 10x12 inches your best bet would be 11x14 paper and then trim it. 9.5x12 inch paper is also available, it's more of a european size usually sold as 24x30 cm.

Personally I stop at 35 frames and use the 5-frames-per-row print file sheets. I use 8.5x11 paper for all my contact sheets though as it lets me copy the written information at the top of the sheet.

Yeah, the sleeves without the binder holes are listed as 9 1/2 x 11 5/8. I’m guessing that the 5/8” is the printing above the top row so the smallest that would work is 9.5x11 or so. The 9.5x12in/24x30cm you mention would be perfect, but I don’t see it at freestyle. I’ll have to check elsewhere. Any idea what manufacturers make that size?

Thanks. I usually buy all my paper form Freestyle and film from B&H, so I didn’t think to check B&H for paper. Either I missed it on Freestyle, or for some reason, they don’t carry it. I have a bit of 50 sheets of 9.5x12 Pearl RC paper in my cart now. Just have to wait until next payday to check out (spent too much on photography already this month.)

I didn't take to my 35mm Paterson contact printer and ordered some 35mm Clearfile neg sheets. They don't fit on 8x10 paper.

What I do now is use two sheets of 8x10 per roll. Hang the expense.

Yeah, I was trying to minimize expense and waste. I knew I could take the 11x14 route, but Ilford 11x14 RC paper was over $2 a sheet, 8x10 is $.85 a sheet. Fortunately I can get 9.5x12 for $.95 a sheet.

I am using 24x30,5 CM (9,45x12 INCH) paper. 36 exposures fit fine when cut in to 6 frame strips and plenty of room to write. I also use clear polypropylene sleeves and expose the contact sheet straight thru.
