Contact-Printers. (Kodak G10 Publication).

What are the contact-printers mentioned in Kodak publication G10 for the discontinued Azo papers and where can I buy one? I have copied and pasted some of this below.

EXPOSURE
Contact printers generally have a very high level of
illumination. In order to keep exposure times within reason,
contact printing papers, such as AZO Paper, are made with a
relatively low speed. Therefore, it’s not practical to use
contact papers with an enlarger as a light source.
A contact printer is a glass-top box with exposing lights
and a safelight inside, and hinged pressure cover over the
glass. Switches control the lights that allow different
intensities to various parts of the image.

Keith you are better off using a 200 or 300 watt light bulb...those printers are a pain in the butt...I had one and junked it.

Those contact printers are only good if you are going to make 100 prints from one negative and are willing to spend an entire day, or more, figuring out the dodging and burning by switching some of the bulbs off and diffusing others.

They are not for the fine-art photographer who wishes to make a print in a minimum amount of time.

If, on the other hand, your negatives need absolutely no dodging an burning, and/or you do not care how fine your prints are, then these contact printers are fine.

Thanks for the replies. I know where there is a secondhand Marrutt CP450 contact-printer for sale, but I don`t know much about them, other than what is mentioned on page 151 of ILFORD MONOCHROME DARKROOM PRACTICE by Jack H Coote.
