I think version 4 is much improved. Maybe I'd tighten up the J&C logo at the top a little or make it smaller so there's a little space between the top of the train and the "J."

I just caught this thread and missed the other versions of the poster. The current version (4?) looks good to me (but that's just me others may have differing opinions). (but maybe that giant colon ending the first line is a bit big...?)

I do like the image, says "big city" to me, and that's how I think of the Big T O.

Yes! I like version 4!

I'd still add a wee bit of space between the 'r' and the 'n' in International... but I guess it kind of depends on how big the final posters will be and where & how they will be viewed.

Mr. Callow, I like it. Good work.

BWGirl, I also like your little signature line...very nice. Actually, hilarious.

It looks really good in version 4 - now all you need to do is photoshop in a photo of someone shooting an 11x14 camera - maybe replace one of the subway poster adds :D :D :D

My eyes struggle with the red text laid over the image's orange diamondplate floor. Picking a blue from the roof of the train? Something.

well done

the fonts could be simplified, with the exception of apug logo font, there should be only 3 fonts or 3 different sizes on the page.

BUT printed up large the fonts look clearer and less of a problem.

I love that image, in fact I own a copy of it :D

Any chance of adding the new APUG logo?

Increase the space kerning between the 'r' and 'n' in international.

Maybe alternate the wording as such.

Workshops
.PhotoOutings.Lectures.DiscussionGroups.ProductVendors.JuriedShow

The alternating bold/grey with the '.' confused my poor mind the first time I read it.

John, I like the latest (v4) version. It has a nice clean look to it, IMO. But there are those here that could tell you the why/why not's. I just like it.

Ok,
I moved J and C off of the train a bit. The 'j' now rides the roof.
Made In Partnership slightly smaller and made Partnership grey so as not to be too dominant and to follow the motif (although that has gone a bit out the window) better
Made the giant colon normal
fixed the address (via a PM)
Changed the Name of Elevator Gallery to Elevator (that is what is on Bob's cards and it is far more than a Gallery)

Regarding the Red Type on the image.
It reads well on my calibrated monitor, but is somewhat subdued. This is aok for me because not all items can be champions. It needs to recede a little. In all truth the address might be better off smaller and positioned less prominently, but Elevator (and Bob) deserves major real estate for their contribution.

All in all, the poster is a bit busier than I'd like. It lacks some cohesiveness. I do think it will do the job though.

Bob will be optically printing these things in 11x14 and 16x20 and send them to members who have an appropriate venue to hang them. These members will also get a stack of entry form/brochures.

In addition I will put high res versions of the PDF up on the conference site for members to download and print. I will make a 13x19" version for those with an Epson whatzit.

They can be located at (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

They are large files, 15meg and up, so give them some time to upload.

The critiques were hugely helpful. Many sent me PM's, I'd have preferred all thread posts so some (pelerin [Celec] a major major help, and dschneller [Dave] who caught a significant typo) could have received their due.

Next up is the Entry/Brochure. It is mostly done, I need to add the changes from the poster and get some images.

The poster works for me, although as pointed out its one of your amazing colour shots of a Toronto Subway Car and JandC is a black and White film product distributor, don't forget we also have Fuji Photo on board. What is required is imagery that catches people's attention as they walk by at street level and in this context the poster works just nicely.
As John pointed out, and I can attest to this, there is no multilingual call center in North York( a neighborhood of Toronto) eagerly awaiting for inquiries. The goal is to get interested people to the APUG site where questions can more easily be answered. I can't wait to see this poster in its final form hung up all over the place.

Hey Bill

you just read my mind, the next thing we need to do is distribute this all over Ontario.

Thank you for volunteering to be the lead on this. John and I are meeting on Wed and we will print the poster next.

Calling out to all Ontario APUGers, we need to get the message out now, If you have a club, favorite camera store, art center pm me with your address and I will get you 11x14 posters to put up.

Any one with leads to the Ontario Camera Clubs I would appreciate spreading the word to them as well.

We have at least 10 Photo Schools in Ontario , I need someone to deliver posters to the right people there.

I think we are on Contacts Web Site now. John can verify and give a link.

Basically , to all the local volunteers who pm.d me or phoned me with your offers of support , now is the time to step up and get the word out.

thanks.

What Bob said,

I will start a thread shortly which will ask all APUGers who have access to a Photography related venue (School, Lab, Club, etc...) to contact us. We will provide Posters, and a stack of entry forms/brochures.

Meanwhile, Toronto, Rochester, Buffalo, Windsor and other relatively nearby cities (near to Toronto) should be a major focus.

I have put up an 11x14 and 13x19 (the 13x19 is really nice) up on the conference site here: (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

In IE or FireFox on the PC right click and save as, for Mac users hold the control (Ctrl) key down as you click the link for the option to save the document.

Just got home and reviewed (pm me or email mpblais@netzero.net if you want the APUG logo-vector art).

Most posters should predominantly be about the venue/topic/subject/whatever. (edit)* I also feel the prominent names who are doing workshops will help validate this as something other than a "club" get together. A toll free number or some number should be listed for "further information"

I think sponsors should all be at bottom. Signature sponsor being the one who paid the most, and noted as such, or is offering the most "in kind " services, mostl likely J&C.

I don't get the "In partnership with" part...Of course the pdf only downloaded text and no image, just a big black area which I'm assuming is the train image you've had on the home page here.

Bottom line (workshops/outings, etc) is an important aspect, yet it's at the bottom? What is the conference about? Doesn't come across to me when I first view. I would list workshops, outings, show and vendors in bulleted area somewhere predominant.

I know ELEVATOR is the gallery, but will others know what it is?
(edit) The APUG Mission Statement (dedicated to the..) will help further explain who/what we are.

Sorry...just stating what I see, and more so, what I don't.

(edit)Us Apug'rs know what's up, but there are many who won't have a clue and WHY THEY SHOULD attend.

Regards

Got a acrobat error opening the latest version, the subway art didn't load.

Just a comment about some of the text bleeding into the surrounding border, i.e., the 'H' in 'PARTNERSHIP WITH', and the p and two g's in the apug url. I think it should be done uniformly with some of the other adjancent letters or not at all.

I agree with blaze-on that ELEVATOR GALLERY works better than ELEVATOR on it's own.

Bob the camera clubs should have some sort of directory so if you know an official of any club they will have one. You can get addresses from the directory

John,

The CEPA gallery is the main photography venue in Buffalo with attached darkrooms, etc... If you get a few of the posters to me, I can probably get them up at CEPA and a few other places in the area.

BTW, I would also find the stand-alone "elevator" on the poster confusing.
