I have an Omega C760 XL enlarger set up for 6x6.
Where exactly should the top condenser be placed?
Almost touching or in the other position about an inch above?
Thanks

My Omega B8 6x9 for greatest coverage has two large
condensers with convex portions nearly in contact. There
is provision on the B8 for smaller auxiliary condensers above
the two large main condensers. Dan

Yes an extra condenser is needed for 35mm which sits on top.

Must the top large condenser sit in an exact position? Does it matter how high it sits? I have a choice of two positions.

I doubt there is a position for 6x6 and another for 6x7.
A second position for one of the large condensers?

As for "needed": The only Needed position for enlarging
ANY SIZE format is the one which will cover the largest
format. Positioning of the condensers and extras are for
the purpose of narrowing the focus of the condensers.
A more narrow focus allows for shorter exposure times
when enlarging to greater diameters; ie 35mm. Dan

I'm concerned that if I place one of the large
condensers in the wrong position I will suffer
from some fall-off?

You've two large condensers. Both the same? If so the
flat of the bottom one should sit very near the negative
carrier. The second should be placed as close as is possible
to the first with it's flat side facing upward.

If you take the lens off and use an empty negative
carrier you can find the focal point of the condensers
by holding a white card below the bellows. The longer
the focal length the better shape you'r in. Dan
