COmpact 35mm camera AF AE

Hello,

can you suggest me a 35mm compact camera that has:

Fast Autofocus,
Auto exposure,
35mm or wider lens,
reliable,
sturdy.

I want to use the camera for snapshot and quick shoots.

I read about the Contax T2 but I would like to have more options.

Nikon T28 or T35 are similar to the Contax.

Konica Off Road wlith 28mm, Pentax WR IQ Zoom, not for under water but good in the rain, has 35 to 70 zoom, Minolta 35mm weathermatic with dule 35mm and 85 lens, Olympus also offered a all weather 35mm with duel lenses, both good to about 10 meters , not weather resistant the Olympus Stylist with either 35mm or 28mm in clam shell case.

Actually the Stylus is gasket sealed and was billed as weather resistant. Combine that with the "sliding dust barrier" case that was pioneered by the XA's and you have a very durable camera.

Yashica T4 Super or T5 (same camera, two names). Not cheap, but they deliver.

Contax T2. I bought a second one in case my first dies. Lens is phenomenal.

I'd second the Hexar AF. Great camera but not exactly compact.

Yashica T3. Weather sealed with a 35mm 2.8 ziess lens. The best feature is a waiste level finder. I had one and enjoyed using it.

Pentax Mini, Konica Offroad (in my experience as sharp as a Hexar but no manual aperture), Ricoh GR series, Ricoh R1, Olympus MJU, Konica Big Mini/A4, Samsung Mini

Yes - owned them all, and all were great.

Oh another one maybe not as sturdy as you like but great performer and lighter weight than the T2: Fuji Klasse S.

Nikon L35af. Inexpensive enough that you can afford multiples but nice enough to only need one. Great lens and is pretty quiet.

Another option is the Vivitar PS 35 with 35mm 3.8 lens, it is a clam shell type, came in 2 versions, the early version and DX version. My wife carried one for years when she a reporter, the images were very sharp. We have the early version with manual ISO allows the user to fool the meter to some degree. She carried it when she covered the Super Bowel in the 90s here in Phoenix, she had one of the paper's PJ use to take her picture with the game in the background, we enlarged it to 11X14 without loss of detail. this image is not ours, I need to dig ours out.

This is very cool. I had some other Vivitar compact 35's from this time period but mostly manual focus. The lenses are terrific. I just did a BIN on eBay for this with a case and free shipping for input $8 USD. I need another camera...NOT....but for $8 I'll toss it at my son to use...

This is so true . . .

The Epic is truly pocketable while the 35Ti has aperture priority along with the fully program mode. Both have very good glass.

The Contax T1 was supposed to be a better camera thn the T2 but is not AF and has 28mm lens and not 35mm lens like the T2.
But if you are going small and want something very very good then why not a Contax G1 or G2 which have super lenses of different FL including, 28, 35, 45 and 90. The 45 is supposed to be stunning. Ok a bit bigger than the T2 and I suppose it depends on what exactly you want if for.
