I just used my new Combi-Plan daylight tank for the first time and developed the full complement of six 4x5 films. It was a delight to use. I had had a bit of a play with it beforehand, testing the filling, emptying and film loading, so that helped a lot. Overall, it was a lot easier to use than I expected and the developed film looks good. Just one question though - the instructions suggest that the film loading guides should clip into place, but on mine they don't really clip tightly at all, but kind of just sit under that little slot. Still, they worked fine in loading the film. Am I doing it wrong?

Same here. Perhaps the guides are supposed to clip into place, but mine don't either or else I'm a complete dummy. They tend to come off easily while loading, but I found that a rubber band holds them in place during loading, then I just remove them and the band before putting the film holder into the tank.

I don't use the film loading guides. I just walk my fingertips up the side of holder to count and find the next slot for film.

Hi Kev,
the one I used to have did "clip" into place. I would put it over the guide rails and then gently push down on it, until I felt resistance, then push just a little bit more and it would go over the little lip and stay in place until I took it off. I don't know if the design has changed since I bought mine (1984).

Thanks for your input, everybody. Mike, that's interesting. Maybe they did change the design slightly since 1984.
