ColorNeg, ColorPerfect etc

On recommendation from hybridphoto.com and having come across it myself ages ago as a demo I bought a license for ColorNeg and I'm tuning into it to work with my colour negatives AND black n white negatives....

My comments so far? I think it is kind of like a bespoke software for us film shooters that will for sure yield great results when I fully understand the tools I'm given and how to use them!!!! I'm in the learning process but have already seen vastly superior results vs. Photoshop's tools for processing these images.

I did some black n white negs yesterday and it clearly surpassed the quality achieved from my previous Photoshop technique for handling black n white.....

If there are other users out there please come into this thread with tips and comments etc

it makes a difference which scanner you are using. For the Nikon it may work out well, but for the Epson it is not optimal.

Essentially I found that one can access some kind of gain control on the epson by altering the scan, this is not available if you scan in a "linear" style as recommended / required by the CF systems software.



dragging the blue hard over as in the above figure results in longer scan times and better values in the blue.

In this article (not about colourNeg, but touching on it) I show what I found.

substantial blue channel clear up if you ask me and essentially few significant advantages for me when using my standard colour negative scanning method

thanks for the reply.....

I'm scanning with a ScanMate 5000 drum scanner and turning all automatic options off like ColorPerfect assk you and scan in 16-bit positive. I haven't figured out if I'm actually scanning in the Gamma 1.0 the programme prefers....or better said, how to do a Linear scan

scanmate ... OK ... should be low noise everywhere. If you don't get ballpark quickly with setting your levels manually then perhaps the CF systems may add value to your workflow. Did you try something like my colour workflow?

Time is money after all, so whichever way gets you there in the most cost effective way

I've heard some great things about this product along with their NegPos product for B&W, though I've yet to use it. NegPos was originally recommended to me by Tim Atherton, http://photo-muse.blogspot.com/, and he can't say enough positive things about it.

I believe that NegPos has been replaced by ColorNeg.

try it and report back!!!!!

I've found it great on black n white negs scanned as 16-bit TIFF positives.....the Photoshop invert and adjust curves method i was doing before rendered every image (regardless of the film i used etc) look all the same......I have a lot lot lot more tones to work with now.....I really cant recommend it enough for black n white actually

Carry out have got any kind of idea regarding adobe photoshop?
