it makes a difference which scanner you are using. For the Nikon it may work out well, but for the Epson it is not optimal.
Essentially I found that one can access some kind of gain control on the epson by altering the scan, this is not available if you scan in a "linear" style as recommended / required by the CF systems software.
dragging the blue hard over as in the above figure results in longer scan times and better values in the blue.
