Ok, so I had some Kodak 400UC negatives with me today in the darkroom, and I figured, why not print them?

So, I printed them up, 28 seconds at three stops down from open on my enlarger (the old lens no longer has any markings, so I don't know what f/stop it is). The image was good, though a bit flat.

The second one, 25 seconds with a #3 filter, and it came out about the same.

I was expecting this to completely fail, but it didn't.

I'll post scans later when the prints dry and I have time.

We used to print color negs on all kinds of B&W paper at the store I worked at, with no problems at all..

I found some family portraits negs from 10 years ago and printed them, dense, 30 sec at f8 and the tonality is great!

You will find that the contrast will vary as a function of the color of the object in the scene. This can be good or bad.

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Related issue, I didn't have any luck so I stop trying for that particular negative.
