Hey everyone,

I was wondering what the correct screw in type filter for the industar 22 lens is (not really interested in a push on, I want a UV filter to leave on at all times)

I read on RFF that it took a 19mm UV filter, but before I buy one, I was wondering if anyone could confirm that this is the correct size?

Thanks!

How are you going to get at the aperture if there's a filter in front of it?. Besides, I'm not sure it has threads.

I just looked at mine. Never noticed the "improvement" over the Elmar. Mine measured 22.5 mm.

it looks like i would not have a problem screwing into it, and adjusting the aperture turning the filter and all?

What do you all use? I can't see a slip on filter being any more convienient

I don't have an I-22, but the I-10 (also known as the FED 50) takes a 19mm filter or hood. I suspect they are the same. The aperture should be reasonably adjustable with a filter in place; with a hood, not so much.

looks the same as mine. I dont think you would have a problem. Measuring across the inside of the threads, I got 22.5mm.

Photos of a Fed 50 I found on google images look different from the Industar 22. the thread seems to be closer to the glass.

The Elmar, which this lens copies, does not have the same aperture arrangement and does not have the threads.

I found a cheap 22.5mm orange filter on the bay, so we'll see if it fits. if it does, it will be good for B&W and possibly Tungsten film. If not, i'm out $8

Why no filter threads on the Elmar? Did Lord Barnack not want any inferior glass attached to the front of his masterpiece?

Actually, Im wrong. Ive had an Elmar for years and never noticed there is a thread. Its for the notched ring that holds in the front lens element but I guess you can put a filter on it. It looks more like the Fed lens, and it measures around 18.6mm so sounds like that one copied the Elmar closely.

Very interesting. If I ever get one, i'll have to keep that in mind. I'm more likely to get the Summitar though, but then i'll need to get that funky filter adapter thing

If you were fussy about exposure there was a clip in ring for the filter so you backed off the clamp screw and rotated the filter.

They do make tiny screw in filters for the Elmars. I can't remember the diameter, but you can usually find them on eBait searching under Walz Argus filters. They look like this:

https://www.google.com/search?q=vin...522%2FVintage-Walz-Filter-No-101-for;1024;768

I used to have the full set for my Elmar. Not sure if they're the same diameter as your Industar lens (which is a classic Tessar design, unlike the Elmar. See link below). Whatever the actual lens design is, the Industar collapsibles are usually excellent performers for very little money.

A shot of my elmar with a 19mm walz yellow. Aperture is still accessible. It came with a kit for a C3 but it stays on my collapsing lens all the time. I never worry about damaging the lens while pocketed or taking photos of a lens cap.
