Cold Tone paper

If you want a cold tone paper, try the new Bergger Variable NB. It's a neutral to cold tone paper. But if you develop it in Eukobrom from tetenal, you'll obtain some blue / cold tones. Moreover the paper base is one of the whitest of the market...
My favorite one. Actually they sell it whith a rebate of 20 % because they want to increase the production so...
 

The simplest solution is Ilford MGWT with cooltone developer.
But it's not a cheapskate solution

With Ilford Cooltone Developer you will get steely blues. I just made a couple of Kentona prints and same thing, it's also a WT paper.
The Ilford Cooltone is of course no longer made. My observation is that it is very slow working needing much additional exposure and long developing times- 4 min range.
The conclusion I come to it that it probably has little or no KBr and plenty of Benzotriazole, so it should be possible to concoct such a developer.

Tom - yes I've used the Tetenal VC Fibre quite recently and its the coldest paper I've ever worked with, colder than the Forte, Ilford, Kentmere and Oriental etc. and I 've only used Ilford multigrade dev, nothing fancy.

Ilford Multigrade Cooltone paper is available, albeit only in resin-coated. A coldtone developer should also help, but the characteristic of a papers tone is mostly due to the actual emulsion itself rather just the developer.
 
So I guess the only cold-tone paper available in the United States is the graded Slavich? A good cold-tone VC fiber paper is not available in the states? I checked Adorama, B&H, and Freestyle...
 
I'm going to give the Slavich a try next weekend, but this weekend I did comparison shots of the Ilford Cooltone RC and would say yes, selenium brings out a good blue-black tone. I didn't print one of this exact shot on my Oriental FB VCII but compared to other shots I've done on the Oriental this did seem a bit colder.

Er, in case your colors don't match mine, the first one is untoned.

John, I'm assuming you mean a 1% solution of benzotriazole, so 1 gram of benzo to 100 ml. water. Any suggestions as a starting point for how much to add per litre of Ansco 103?
 
I get really cool tones with Kentmere Bromide in either D72 or Beers 2-bath. I'm surprised no-one's mentioned it before in this thread. It's main drawback is that it's only available in grade 2 in the UK.

I just recently discovered Kentmere Bromide. When processed in my standard developer (D163 1+3 at 3 minutes), I get neutral tones. However, when toned in Selenium 1+4, I get beautiful purple blacks. There's also a significant contrast increase. Combine all this with the really white base of Kentmere paper, and you get a print that really "pops". You may or may not like the look. I love it, and so just ordered a huge batch of it, as Freestyle will not restock once it's gone. At least that's what they told me.

not processing ,but a relevant detail is it's being discontinued----so if you like this paper ....stock up.
