Sold Cold Stored Vintage 5x7 Film

I have some cold stored 5x7 sheet film that I'd like to unload. I bought it from someone who I know for a fact kept it frozen since purchase, and my tests with one of the boxes confirm this.

100 sheets 5x7 TMax 400, unopened, exp 1996 - $275

50 sheets 5x7 Ektachrome 50T, unopened, exp 1979 - $200

50 sheets 5x7 Ektachrome 50T, opened but mostly full, exp 1979 - $180

I used a small number of sheets to test some of the 50T but never really started shooting it. Tests came back just fine! Classic Ektachrome.

I just shot a test frame of the 50T. I can confirm that the 'open' box is mostly full, hardly any sheets have been used. So it probably contains roughly 45 sheets. You can also see that it's holding up extremely well. I metered this at 50 ISO and developed normally in a Jobo. I did sample a neutral tone on the scan to normalize the color, the actual sheet is very blue as you would expect from a daylight shot on tungsten film.

so what filter would I need to shoot the 50T in daylight? Googling suggests 85. Any drawback to doing that other than having to shoot at EI32?

Hi, You'd use an 85 filter. There is no drawback save for speed loss. Cine shooters do this all time since most of the common color negative stocks are still Tungsten. And for large format, having a slower speed is often an advantage. One less ND filter to use for smoothing out water flow.

I've already committed to buying a new box of E100 5x7 from a Canham bulk order, so let me see if I can find enough quarters under my sofa cushions for one of the boxes of 50T.
