Cold shoe extension

I've been looking and I can't find something close to what I need. I would like a thing that slides into the camera's existng cold shoe and that has its own cold shoe that would be placed a little behind the existing shoe. The closest I could find is this thing:




I'm sure that this will not do what I want, but it does give a good idea what I'm looking for. in this instance the side with the screw would slide into the shoe (this device is probably too wide, and too thick.) The existance of the screw would actually be good as it would be used to lock the extension in place. I also saw something that exactly what I'm asking but it was too long (maybe a 2-3 inch extension) and no longer made. The side of the item above is more or less the scale I'm looking for, i.e. it extends the shoe backwards about the lenght of a shoe.

I may just end up buying one of these, then going at it with an angle grinder to make it fit, but I'd really like to find something purpose made. Has anyone seen something like what I'm looking for?

Not familiar with what you are looking for. This might just slide into place?

But what you're linking claims to be cold shoe fit ???

I didn't see anything in the linked page that claims that it slides into a cold shoe. Everything shows it screwing into a 1/4-20 hole and providing a cold shoe mount.

why not have a good mechanic have you nade a custom piece?

You're right, I misread it.

I am curious! What do you want to mount on it? A meter? A viewfinder?

That's the last resort, but yeah, I may do that. I could easily 3D model it, but I don't think I'd trust it as a 3D printed item. Maybe if I could find a automated CNC service that could use the same 3D models..

Its more for a test than anything--I have a Horseman Convertible which uses a built in "sports finder". I reccomended the camera in another thread, but it got me thinging whether I'd prefer to try to use aactual shoe mount viewfinder instead.

Fortunately I already have a 28mm viewfinder for the 65mm lens on my Fuji GL690, and it should give me good enough match for the 63mm lens on the Horseman. In addition I'm working on a lens mount to put a 105mm lens on the Horseman, so I'll need a viewfinder to work with that as well.

When I tried the 28mm viewfinder, but the roll back in place, I couldn't comfortably get my eye into a position where I could see the whole frame. Moving it backwards 1 or 1.5 cm shouild solve the problem.

When I went looking on B&H or Amazon (I try to avoid amazon as much as possible) there are hundreds, maybe thousands of various adapters that are designed to do different things with the camera shoe, but the link above is the closest I could find so far. I figured maybe someone else had seen something that does what I need.

I know there are some MF designed viewfinder that sit further back, but the ones I found don't really solve the issue. Most common is the Mamiya Press 65mm VF. First it is bulky--I'd prefer small. Second, the shoe on to sits at the very back so will probably have the same issue. Lastly its offset, but I don't think that would make much difference since I'm not shooting closeup. (I usually leave the lens at the hyperfocal distance for whatever aperture I'm using.)

Thanks for the suggestions. I think the first would end up holding the viewfinder up too high. The second one has more promise if I could find a piece that slides into a cold shoe and has a 1/4-20 hole in it. Something like this (though I'd prefer a lower profile):
