I soup 90% of my film in Xtol and have no dust problems no scratches no issues at all.

However whenever I soup in Rodinal I always seem to have really dusty scratched negs?

Am I missing something or is it just coincidence?

Rodinal is higher pH and also contains some free NaOH (Hydroxide) with some films it softens the emulsion more so there is a greater potential for issues, dust will stick more easily, likewise they'll scratch more easily.

Neopan 400 & Tmax 400 are known for softening leading to grain clumping/micro reticulation with temperature variations, and even without temperature variations will be less robust than other films.

However if you're clean working, watch temperatures carefully, if water's bad filter it, then there's no issue. I've used Rodinal with EFKE/Aox films which are far softer with no issue, it just needs more care.

Hmm I work clean and use distilled water for all steps as the tap water is terrible (from a well not mains) but... I am terrible with my temps I will admit.
Will work on stabilizing the temps and see if that helps.

Oh and issues are seen mostly with APX 100 and Pan 25.
