I wonder if a cloth shutter could be made of fiberglass? You might burn off the black paint or whatever, but a little black nail polish might fix that.

I have an M8 and an M6, will probably sell the M8. The difference in shutter noise and shock felt through the camera body is really startling. ISTR they used the shutter from the last R in the M8. On one level I worry a bit about burning the shutter but many people have managed to use these cameras for many decades without ever doing it, including professional use shooting 1000's rolls per year. Just my luck I have probably jinxed it now and will burn the shutter.

When I first heard about this problem, I didn't believe it, but I gather the most likely burn scenario is leaving the camera somewhere face up outdoors on a sunny day with the lenscap off.
