i have a Turner Reich triple convertible, the front lens is perfectly clean and clear, the rear lens has Turnereitis, with balsam
deposits covering most of the element, this does effect images. How can I dismantle the rear lens and clean it OR is there someone expert at this I could send it to? The shutter is working really well and its a shame for me not to have a satisfactory lens.

Hi Anton,

To repair Balsam separation in the Turner Reich anastigmat requires turning down the burnished brass “retainer” to remove the lenses, then separating the elements, cleaning and rebonding. I don’t recommend using balsam to rebond as the way the lens is assembled guarantees separation with balsam. UV adhesive avoids the inherent flaw in the assembly that causes separation. I’ve repaired a few of these now and can do this for you if interested. Send me a PM.

Jason,
When you say “turning down”, do you mean actually bending the brass away from center? Is there a tool I could use to do that? I have the same lens with the same problem but I am willing to risk its life to DIY it and learn the art of recementing elements  Thanks!
