Classic Pan 200 sheet film question

Hi !
I've opened, this morning, my first box of Classic Pan 200 4x5 sheet film.
I've found the film to be very well packaged (usual triple cardboard box, plus a sealed pouch for the film which is wrapped in a paper sheet !) Between each sheet there is a very thin sheet of black paper.
I wonder if this paper is only here to protect from finger prints and scratches, or if it has to be put under the film sheet during exposure to provide anti halation protection ?

Just for protection I do believe. Antihalation is in the film base.

IMO, the real reason for the paper is that it's a cruel joke. At least twice early on, I've THOUGHT I found all of the paper sheets, but instead our friend static electricity managed to stick a sheet right to the emulsion and it was loaded with the film.

You guessed it, just like a second eyelid (or darkslide in this case)...

I'm real careful (now) and haven't done THAT in a while. Having said that, I do love that film.

Maco's IR film has those sheets of paper in between them too.

Being a member of the geezer class, I can remember when ALL suppliers put those sheets of black paper between the film sheets.

Dunno if static was the reason, I rather think it was cleanliness
