Hopefully someone here will have personal experience or can recommend a technician for my newly acquired old Hasselblad?

I was lucky enough to have been gifted a Hasselblad 500C for my photography studies but I am concerned the camera needs a good cleaning. It hasn't been used in over a decade I am told and judging by the dust and dirt on it I imagine it needs to be opened up and looked at.

I would like to have it completely cleaned inside and out, lubricated, adjusted, including having the lens looked at as well. My only concern is whether I can afford to do this on a student budget. Fingers crossed!

Any help from anyone out in the APUG world would be greatly appreciated.

Steve's camera, David Odess, Samy's....

All easily found in other threads or via Google.

The "student budget " may be more of an issue for you than who to send it to

Both of these are good. My go to guy has a big backlog, so see one of these two.

Joe Viera in Toronto is a great Hasselblad tech. he's usually at the camera shows as well. he also has ads on Kijiji. Can't go wrong with his work.

I'm not sure if he is still in business, but David Yau (located in Toronto) did a great job on my 500 CM

yup, he's still repairing stuff. dude's relatively young so many more years to go. He can fixe Hasselblads and Xpans. David is slowly easing out but still does work for past customers. He worked on a 50 Summilux for me this fall. Need to bring an M6 in for a look over.

I'll second Joe. Had a good chat with him at a Camerama Show. Also Roger at Camtech in Hamilton did a solid job repairing my 500c.

I can recommend both David Yau in north Toronto, and Roger at Camtek in Hamilton.

I have talked to Joe and he seems fairly knowledgeable on the Hasselblads (was looking for a filter for an older 40mm Blad lens), and have used Roger (Camtech) and can verify the quality of his work.

Joe is a former Hasselblad tech with Lisle Kelco. He's done repairs on a body and some backs for me and the work is excellent. For those in Ontario or Canada, he's a great resource without the cross border customs hassle. If you can drop off an dpick up at the shows that saves lots of aggravation as well

Joe Viera in Toronto has cleaned and adjusted my 500 CM, 50mm, 80mm and 150mm lenses. I thought they were OK when I sent them in, wanted to confirm accurate shutter speeds etc. They came back better than new, both mechanically and aesthetically. The 50mm is 68 vintage and the 150 was a 1970 model, these came back smooth as silk and look like new, did not expect these old silver lenses to look this good.
Recommend Joe for any of your repair needs, he also has an inventory of equipment at reasonable prices.
