Looks like Cinestill just recalled their latest batch of 120 (8010411), rolling it redscale style. Noticed it was in stock in a couple places, and after the recall notice, it out of stock everywhere until end of Sept. Was thinking about trying it out. Very unfortunate for them.

Very unfortunate for them.

Admitting that they got something wrong is still much better, both for the user and the firm's image, than sweeping things under the carpet and having faulty film sold, as Kodak Alaris did.

It would be hard to sweep this error under the carpet! The red halos around white lights might be really intense!

Not just that -- even with no antihalation, exposing from the wrong side gives the more sensetive layer too much light, and the ones that normally don't live under the filter layer too little and filtered, so there are major color shifts. That's why this roll (emulsion out instead of the usual emulsion in) is sometimes called "redscale."

Right! I tried Lomography's redscale film once for fun with the kids. It turned my father-in-law a deep purple! So it served it purpose - having fun!

I thought something got wrong with a version they by purpose twisted around... there are so many "fun" films on the market, I thought they had jumped on that trein too.

I used to love using Cinestill 800 in 35mm, but gave up after my last batch came with light leaks from the factory.
