I used BPD Photech in April of last year (my only Ciba experience so far). Very responsive to emails/questions and a decent turnaround time too. The results look great to my eyes (although, as I said, I have no other reference!)

Well Im not in America but The Lighthouse Lab and Sandy Prints commercially print Ilfochromes up to 50inch x 4meters using traditional techniques.

Visual-imaging lab...slide thieves!

Just wondering if anyone is using this lab? Visual imaging in Wyoming I sent off some very precious kodachromes of mine for ilfochrome prints in December '09. The slides were sent with a delivery conformation so I know they got there but it's now 5 months later and I have heard nothing ! I've emailed and left phone messages repeatedly with them to find out what has happened, and I have recieved absolutly no response to anything. I put in a complaint with the BBB and they were unable to get a response either. All I want are my slides returned at this point. So I'm wondering if anyone is using this lab? Are they still in business? And if anyone is thinking about using them in the future I suggest finding a different lab.

I just dropped in some B&W and colour slides to Stephen Frizza @ the lighthouse lab today. Perfect - only 5 mins drive from my office.

I offer a Cibachrome (aka Ilfochrome) service from Kent in the UK. All prints are made by hand with conventional enlargers - no scanning etc. One of my clients is currently showing four prints in the AOP "A celebration of Kodachrome" exhibition in London. They are the only direct prints in this show, the others all being scan to C-type, Giclee, inkjet etc. There is, in my opinion, no comparison! I print for clients across the world, including USA, Australia, far East etc, using post or courier services. www.owenboyd.com

Yeah the almighty Dufau is one of the top 5 Ciba printers on the planet! he doesn't work by the clock : he'll stop working on your prints only when HE considers them good.

He'll retire in a couple of years so you'd better hurry!

It's available but not what you'd call cheap. Given that there are labs dedicated to it, it's clearly not discontinued yet.

Can't say how long that will last though since everyone seems to think it doesn't exist and it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy. What I don't understand is why we don't see digital labs printing to it via Chromira or Lightjet.

Still want to play with it though....
Found some out of date paper at a local photo shop and asked about chems, they basically said I was dreaming. Told me I was wasting my time wanting to do RA4 too...
Just bought 7 or 8 20" rolls of RA4 paper cheap from a pro lab that shut down but they only had replenish stuff and didn't know where to get home use stuff.
Nobody around here seems to think home colour printing is worth the bother :-(

With Ilfochrome, would I have issues getting it shipped?

Playing around with Ilfochrome as a home user is wasteful, very costly, uneconomical and unless you have advanced skills in contrast masking, the results will be substandard and disappointing: masking is essential and requires astute judgement. The big doyens of Ilfochrome in Australia have now closed shop: it is an exacting, expensive, unrewarding (cost of supplies and processing exceeds income) and unforgiving set up. Personally I'm glad I've moved on from it and now into digital. Is that a sin? No. I think most people should skill up for the future and not continue chasing pony tails.

AFAIK, the chems travel by sea freight, necessarily for their volatility. And sea freight is s..........l..............o..............w............ ! Vanbar ships what chems they have by road or you pick them up.

Aside from cost, which increases with nauseating regularity, you would have very serious issues with disposing of the used chems, particularly the extremely noxious and harmful bleach. Not something I'd like to get wrong in an environmentally-astute place like Tassie!
