Choosing a (paper) developer

I used to use Agfa paper developer for years, then switched to Kodak's T-Max paper developer, and used that for a while, but was never really that pleased with it. Someone from here recommended Ethol LPD 6 years ago, and it's been the absolute best by far. Excellent tonal range from the Foma & Efke papers.
