I have bought a Da Yi 6x17 camera from china. I have had it now for about 3 months and ran about 8 rolls through it. love the simple parts to the camera. focusing is manual if you think your are 10 feet you put it on 10 feet. I shoot with a 90mm calumet lens which is a Rodenstock lens.Has anybody used the above mentioned intended for use with the new 6x17
Shen Hao panoramic cameras? Impressions?
Any comment would be appreciated.
For those looking to do 617 on the cheap with 120/220 film, let me suggest considering my paper insert idea, which I put in the apug blog.
I have a DaYi 6x12 back and it is of very good quality.
Well, I purchased the cheap Guohuo GH 6 x 12 film back. It was made of plastic and while it didn't appear very durable, it did appear well-made with prescision.
Despite that, the knob didn't appear to be glued or attached as it was incapable of rolling. I had to epoxy it myself. Which was a relatively painless endeavor.
After that, my first roll was completely fogged on the frames. I figured it may have been from where the darkslide comes out of the holder. There is no light trap material there.
The next two rolls I tested proved that. But the tests also proved that it did leak quite a bit there. But also leaked while the darkslide was coimpletely closed without exposing the frame......
Also that light leaked at other places where there shouldn't be any leaks.
The seller claims it was a bad batch from the manufacturer. I am going to go with the Dayi and see how it works out for me.....
Does anyone know if you can shoot 220 with a Shen-Hao NHS 617 Art Panorama film back?
Thanks!
Probably not, as it uses the red window design. 220 does not have backing paper, so will a) fog and b) not allow you to know where on the roll you are.
Additionally, I don't know of any 220 still being made, so it's a relatively moot point unless you have a store of OOD film.
