Only 2 lenses I'm afraid

I had hoped that maybe those were Dagors or something similar, but another member PM'd saying it might not be much to write home about. I'd probably buy with the idea of selling. I've emailed the guy for lens markings, so we'll see.

Are they worth anything for their imaging quality?

If they are projection Petzval lenses, they might demand some money from folks that like the antique, swirly, sharp-in-the-center, rapid-falloff look. They look similar to pictures of other projection Petzvals I have seen, but I won't judge just by looking at the pictures. You might double your money by selling the lenses here or on the LF forum. Or you might not.

If you do buy it, do not discard the mounting rings that attach the lenses to the projector. A buyer will want to use them to attach the lenses to a camera.

I know it's hard to say, but could I turn a profit on these two?

You could probably make some money if the projector glass is in good shape. Make sure the lenses actually make an image and aren't missing glass.

Looks like this might be a stereopticon (I"m not an expert on that) which, as I understand it, was designed to have double images instead of one. The unit is less common than a standard magic lantern, but whether it is more valuable, I don't know. It doesn't necessarily look in great shape. If it is a stereopticon, the lenses would probably be identical. Could you find a buyer for the unit - maybe, but I doubt you could get a whole lot for it especially if you separated the lenses from it. One company that made a lot of Stereopticons was the Macintosh Stereopticon Company (hope I got the spelling right).

Are the lenses worth more than $200 - possibly since Projection Petzvals are going up in price because everyone wants them. However, I bought a Projection Petzval for a stereopticon a few months ago for less than $100. It is labeled by the Macintosh Stereopticon Company. If the lenses will work for an 8 x 10 camera, the demand (and price) will be higher.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Dan, that definitely does help.

It's a tough call, as it's about a 3 hour drive. I'm leaning more towards no at this point, but I'll wait to hear what he says. The projector itself would probably go to the curb/antique-mall or something, and I'd sell the lenses seperately, in theory.

Who knows, thanks thus far though!
