If anyone's interested - a good friend of mine owns this space. Anyone looking to throw a small show, have a party, or get a few shooters together to display your work, it's a cool little space and I think he's very cheap. On the main strip in Expo Park, good foot traffic on nice weekends, bars and restaurants in walking distance and right off the Dart Rail:

He's a good guy and wants to have the space become sort of a community gallery/meeting space. He also has converted a warehouse nearby into a pretty decent little shooting studio, big shooting room with cyc, high ceilings, power grid, hair/makeup room and green screen wall - cheap rates there too, especially since it's sort of "grand opening specials" for now:

I'm not "financially" involved in these ventures, but I think they're cool little finds for shooters on a budget in North Texas.

So you would have to pay someone to display your work? I wouldn't do that. If you're talking about just renting out the space, that's a different thing.

Another alternative would be to have someone host a show in their gallery and then keep somewhere between 40% and 60% of the sale price. For the right location (good traffic of people with money they are willing to spend on art), renting a venue might be an excellent idea.

No, it's strictly rent the place - though I think if he likes your stuff, he'd hang it and take a cut. When the weather's nice he opens the front door and pops a bunch of 1-liter wine bottles, sometimes has a musician - he does those giant abstracts shown in the pics. He also has credit card processing I believe. Nice guy, he worked as a set builder for TV and movies for years.

I really, really like the idea of having community spaces that can function as galleries, get a few artist friends together and say "hey spanky, let's put on a show - and we don't need dad's barn". Pitch in for wine and snacks, invite all your friends, make a facebook event, maybe sell a piece or too - but mainly sort of celebrate people who are creating vs. sitting in front of the TV, y'know? Cross-pollinate your friends, network a bit, get some pats on the back for those hours in the darkroom or in front of the canvas.
