Before I post these on my web site for the general public, I wanted to let APUG members know that Really Big Cameras has a limited number of Chamonix Cameras in stock and available for immediate shipment.

I have 4x5 cameras (045n-1) in stock in both maple and walnut with both black and titanium colored hardware. The number of each type is very limited at this time. So, if you want your choice of wood and metal color, please act quickly. These cameras all have the universal bellows (better for wide angle lens use than the standard bellows). They are priced at $875 each - and that price includes shipping.

I also have one 5x7 (057n-1) camera in stock in walnut with black metal hardware. This is the model with the horizontal/vertical back. This model sells for $2000, and the price includes shipping.

I also have a few accessories in stock, including universal bellows for the 4x5 cameras ($95.00), metal lensboards that fit the 4x5 and 5x7 cameras ($35.00 each - pre-drilled for size 0, 1, 3 shutters, or undrilled with a pilot hole). I also have Photo Clam PC-69-UP2 quick release plates that are perfect for use with these Chamonix cameras.

For a great, ultralight, affordable 4x5 field camera set-up, consider combining a Chamonix 045n-1 4x5 camera with a Feisol Tournament Class carbon fiber tripod (models CT-3342 - $299.00, or CT-3442 - $309.00) and a Photo Clam PC-40N ($219.00) or PC-40NS ($239.00) ballhead. Throw in a PC-69-UP2 quick release plate ($37.00), a 1/4 - 3/8 bushing adapter ($3.00) and a second mounting screw ($2.00) and you'll have a 4x5 camera and complete support system that weighs between 6.25 and 6.5 lbs. (less than many 4x5 cameras alone) and costs less than $1500 delivered (also less than many 4x5 cameras alone).

I am personally using such a set-up (Chamonix 045n-1, Feisol CT-3342 and Photo Clam PC-40N) and must say the lightweight of this system is truly liberating - and in this economy these products are all priced much lower than comparable products from other manufacturers. All three products lines (Chamonix, Feisol and Photo Clam) represent excellent values at truly affordable prices.

It's good to hear from you. I'm glad you are enjoying your Feisol tripod.

Ironically, the first products Really Big Cameras offered for sale, a bit over a year ago, were lenses - the Docter Optics Germinars. Unfortunately, those lenses were in very limited supply.

I'd like to eventually add a line of lenses from at least one of the current manufacturers. The plan for my business has always been to grow slowly and steadily, adding one or two new product lines every 4 - 6 months. I started with the Feisol tripods and accessories last March, added the Photo Clam ballheads and quick release plates last October. I'm now carrying the Chamonix Cameras and film holders and in the process of importing high quality contact printing frame from Argentum.

More product offerings are in the works, but it takes time. My goal is to only offer products I believe in and would use myself. While it's not a goal to offer the absolute cheapest product in each category, it is a goal to offer the products that offer the best value - excellent quality at an affordable price. My own personal bias for lightweight products that can easily be carried in the field is also reflected in my current product mix. The Feisol tripods, Photo Clam ballheads and Chamonix cameras all offer an unbeatable combination of features, performance and ultralight weight.

I am currently sold out of the 4x5 Chamonix 045n-1. I don't expect to get any more in until the next prodiiuction batch is completed sometime in August. I will post an announcement here when they are on their way from the manufacturer.

I still have a lovely 5x7 camera in walnut/black available.

I have learned from Chamonix that they will not be making any more cameras from walnut. They have nearly exhaused their supply of walnut and are reserving what remains for repairs of existing cameras. They still have plenty of maple on stock and have secured a large supply of teak for future production runs.

So, everyone who has a walnut Chamonix now has a bit of a collector's item on their hands. It's too bad they have run low on walnut as it's a very beautiful wood. The maple cameras are a little lighter (about 2 oz. in the 4x5 size) and are beautiful in their own way (it's all a matter of personal preference). I'm sure the teak cameras will also be very attractive once they become available.
