Hello.

I'm fairly new to polaroid transfering. I want to do some on ceramic tiles. Is there a special technique? What can I coat the image with to make it permanently adhere?

use unglazed tiles, no problem.

I think most tile stores have unglazed/quarry tiles. Seems like something fairly expensive to ship.

FWIW, I have hundreds of photo sensitized white tiles originally used in toumbstones. Maybe you could search for similar sources.

There was a time when a picture of the deceased was contact printed onto a ceramic tile which was embedded in the tombstone. Variations were made, for example a regular photo under a crystal dome. I saw more of it in Europe than in the USA. Our eldest local photographer passed away (94 years old, still working) and I was given a few things including boxes of these tiles. They have a thick, yellow emulsion - quite slow but adequate.

I see an occasional new stone in the local cemetery with a photo. I didn't notice whether on a tile, but did seem to see a pattern of the families all being from 'older world' countries. It struck me as unusual because there were so few, but now it makes sense...came from an older tradition...I also thought I saw a pattern (in a small sample of 2 or 3 photos) they were all Catholic. The predominant denomination in this area is not, and seems to have issues with 'images'.

Good luck. We have two DIY pottery places here. Craft shops are another possibility.
