Twenty images were discovered from Ernest Shackletons 1914-1917 Ross Sea Party. The Antarctic trust has all of the images in a small slide show. Pretty cool to see how these images survived after all this time. I am curious about how they went about conserving them after they defrosted them. Now if they can only find Andrew Irvine's camera on everest...
Very interesting. One of my Dad's heros was Admiral Byrd, who explored both the North and South pole areas. The airplane he flew around the Antarctic is is here in Ford Museum.
It looks like the negatives had kind of fused together in a wad. I suppose, once they soaked and separated them. they copied them. Old nitrate film is pretty fragile.
