I have come upon an Lens made by Carl Zeiss, But the different thing about it is the following! [ Carl Zeiss London ] not Carl Zeiss germany or jena ?

I am wonder if any one here has any information on this lens ! I tried to get info on another forum but no Info other than another person has such a lens !

The nice thing its A tessar and a compound shutter 3 settings B-T-I and speed dial of 1sec to 1/200sec and the shutter is Compur style!

The shutter works on all settings [T] as it should as it should and
shutter speeds seem to working very by the sound of the shutter!

the lens is in good shape for its age , it has one scrath on the front element and the rear element has a fracture line in it , making the F4.5 and F5.6 none usable but from F8 to F32 would be fine: if you look at the very top of the lens you can make out the fracture:

Thanks for any help or information on this lens!

Probably made by Ross, who were the British licensee of Zeiss lenses?

It appears that Carl Zeiss, London is probably the collaboration between Ross and Zeiss.

In a 1902 book the Ross advert states quite clearly that they are the sole British manufacturers of Zeiss and Goerz lenses, listing Zeiss Planars, Unars and Convertible Anastigmatics.

Ross were also manufacturing Zeiss binoculars, their own military binoculars WW1 are marked Ross (Mill Hill).

Ian, the VM waffles a bit but states clearly that CZ registered a company in 1909 and had opened a facility in Bittacy Hill, London. It hints that Bittacy Hill and Mill Hill might be different names for the same place, suggests that after the war started the facility was handed over to Ross.

1909 was later than 1902, what was true in 1902 need not have been true by 1911.

Lauren, it is unfortunately the case that a discussion on a BBS, once started, never really ends. photo.net offers e-mail notification of new posts to a thread ...
