I find the way he chose to print them interesting. Seems they're printed so contrasty that it eliminates what may otherwise clutter the image - do you think?

When you see an image someone else has printed, do you wonder about the various possibilities and why they've chosen to print the way they have? Sometimes I would love to be able to see into the processes, choices and thoughts of other photographers.

Just browsing images this morning, and musing.

notice the dates, probably during his merchant marine career which just prededed his employment at Harper's Bazaar.

I think he didn't have a light meter, took a guess, overexposed, saw a good composition after processing, and printed it. Nothing wrong with that.
