I have seen the recipes for POTA developer than all make 1 litre, but do not specify how much film that can develop.

I only need to develop 1 sheet of 4x5 and I'll be using my Jobo tank; and I doubt I can fit a litre into the tank. If I cut the amounts in half, is that sufficient chemicals to develop a single sheet of 4x5?

There's no reason to not divide the recipe. When I've used it, I made 250ml. You just need to be able to measure the small amount of phenidone.

If 1 litre will develop 1 roll of film, 250ml will develop 1 4x5 with no potential for depletion.

Make a 1% solution of Phenidone in glycol and you can prepare POTA whenever you want without fuss.
In Jobo systems 250mL of POTA works just fine.

I think 500ml should be more than enough developer. I use that amount all the time to develop one 120 roll of film.

Phenidone: .75g
Sodium Sulfite (anhydrous) 13g.

I use a 50gr Phenidone dilution on 1000ml of Glycol. Use 15ml for 500ml of developer.

LIke Craig said, POTA is a good developer for high contras film. Also good when you shoot film on very contrasty environment. Bring out a lot of tonal range. I love what I can get with it using Aviphot film.

It lower film speed (about one step) and grain may not be the best for certain films so not your everyday cup of tea (of coffee). I use it when speed is not essential (like portrait/lanscape). Got hold of a big roll of Aviphot to cut for 4x5 and intend to use it with POTA @100.

I ran the film tonight and mixed 300ml of developer. It developed a 4x5 just fine.

It's amazing how much this developer lowers the contrast on an ortho film compared to Xtol. I'll have to print it now, and compare to some FP4 I shot of the same scene.
