Canon T-90 compatibility with 540-EZ flashlight

Does in this combination the 2nd-curtain synchronisation still work?

Mir-Photography say "no", but as this feature is stated to work still with the predecessor 430-EZ (which too is dedicated to the EOS-range and not the T-90, I'm puzzled.

I don't have a 540EZ, so can't help you there. I do have a 430EZ. Following instructions in the 430EZ manual I set the T90 to BULB, then set the flash to second curtain sync. The flash fired consistently with the first curtain. If that tells you anything.

Your reply first shows that one has to take statements on the Mir site and by Canon with some grain of salt. (This is a complicated matter anyway, and that was why I asked here.) Secondly (I did not read that 430EZ manual before) necessarily setting the camera on"bulb" is not the kind of 2nd curtain operation I am expecting. I rather would like to still have controlled slow-times exposures, as in the 300TTL.

I thought of the 540EZ as an alternative to the 300TTL for those rare cases when I like to have a wide range of special effects features (high freq. strobo, 2nd curtain) in one flashlight.

I shall wait for a 540EZ to show up at the local fleamarket for cheap, and then see what to make out of it...

For what it's worth, I just tried the 430EZ on my <cough> 5D </cough> set to Tv and it did fire on the second curtain. Perhaps I didn't read the manual thoroughly enough.

Maybe in that case it was better not read the manual... What counts is what comes out at the end...

The T-90 is the most "advanced" camera I just can handle. I hate manuals thick as a book and urging one to re-read it after two weeks of non-use. I guees those later flashlights are of that kind of being complicated too.

AgX the correct 300TL speed light can be bought for buttons these days, and at least you know they will fully dedicate to the T90.

Yes, I already have it, I just thought of alternative for those cases I might use all the additional gadgets of that later model.

I think you will find that many of the "addition gadgets" for the later models like iTTL, are beyond the T90's capabilitys.

I tried this combination just now and there is no 2nd curtain synch in P, Av, Tv, or M modes with the 540EZ in both ATTL and manual mode. I use the 540EZ with an EOS Elan/100 and an Elan 7e mostly and the 300TL with the T-90 but I've used the 540EZ on occasion with the T-90.

Then the resting major advantage over the 300TTL would be the stroboscobe features.
