Hi,

Ends up the New F1 I got could use a CLA. It does occasionally suffer from the slow mirror disease which causes shutter speed issues. I looked up and found some usually suspects. I took the bottom plate off and it looked like someone went in and cleaned and put fresh grease on what the service manual showed as lube points. one of the claims was an arm dragging on the bottom plate. That was not it, same issue with bottom off. another, which I think is more likely with maybe another issue combined is lube on the mirror mechanism dried out. I did the heat up the camera idea and it did work normally after that for a while. It is also sensitive to which way the camera is pointed. If I lift the mirror first, then fire the shutter, the speed is always correct. When it is not working right, the shutter acts like it is bulb mode no matter what speed is set.

Sometimes it just works fine, then sometimes it acts up for a while.

In any case, who is the preferred repair person these days? I still might do this myself, I have done many cameras down to their springs, just right now I am a little shaky and might choose to send it off.
