I was recently given this Canon camera and lens. All of my other 35mm equipment is Nikon. I notice that the corners of the picture are blacked out between the 18 and 24 mm zoom settings (even without the lens hood or a filter), and that the lens hood interferes with the picture on the sides at the same zoom settings. I haven't got access to another Canon camera to see if this is peculiar to this particular camera and lens.
Anyone have any hints as to what is going on?
Sounds like the lens is made for digital cameras with a 1.6x crop factor, and not a 'full frame' lens. It'll probably work just fine on a APS-C DSLR, but always vignette on a full frame.
Yes, that is for a crop-sensor camera. Might be fine at 35-50mm, though. You'll just have to peek through the viewfinder to see if there is vignetting.
It seems like a decent lens from the reviews I just read, but the camera also came with a 28 to 90 kit lens, so I think I'll put the "C" one up for sale on DPUG and just leave the kit lens on it.
Thanks for the help everyone.
