Case is not in the best of shape but the holder is good to excellent. Levels work, all hardware present, thick black paint on base is in nice shape. This took a bit of effort to mesh with my previous IVSB, so I'm not sure if it is just very lightly used and therefore a bit tighter or if it is for another earlier/smaller model.

$25 shipped CONUS, $25 + shipping worldwide. Will trade for Portra or TMAX or Delta in 120 or 4x5, otherwise Paypal or money order. Ships via USPS from 92116, San Diego, CA.

It does a couple things:

Holds the camera (zing!)
Provides a central horizontal tripod mounting location (the old Canons had either way off to the right or left)
Provides a vertical tripod mounting location (like a modern L-bracket)
Has a built-in level (still present, clear and easily read on this example)
For folks with big hands, it makes the compact cameras a bit easier to hold and balance with bigger lenses. When I had an IVSB and my Canon LTM 50/1.2, it was more comfortable to hold with this mounted, even if it was heavier.

It might be a silly question, and I have a suspicion I already know the answer, but will this fit the Canon P? If it does, I'm interested.

Canon made several camera holders. The camera holder "L" is meant for the Canon P.

No, this is for the early bodies (bottom loaders) II, III, etc. Definitely does not fit anything like a VT/VL and past that.
