I have a Canon P. The rewind is a little stiff to turn (even without film) compared to other cameras. I have carefully tried to remove any gunk around the shaft (with alcohol on a cloth) but I suspect it needs a tiny bit of lube. A tiny dab of oil? Of grease? What kind? Any ideas?
It would be best to remove the shaft and clean it, new oil plus old dirty goo equals accelerated wear. A medium clock oil for the shaft, very light grease for the spring washer if present.
Something like this:
Liberty Oil, the Best 100% Synthetic Oil for Lubricating Your Grandfather Clocks (from Amazon)? OR
Lubricant, Oil, Shutter 100gram. NYOILIs a clear, odorless oil for lubricating, polishing, cleaning, and preventing rust.?(Microtools)
I am assuming gun oil would be a mistake?
Gun oil, or any petroleum oil, will creep away from the point of application. "Liberty oil" I've never heard of, I use Nye products.
Wm. F. Nye, New Bedford Mass. There's no such thing as a "grandfather clock", the correct term is "long case clock".
The clock oil will stay put if the parts are clean and it is not over applied. Use just enough to moisten the parts.
