Sorry to ask such a bonehead question, but I have been a Nikon user forever. My question: What Canon lens (EF, EOS, ???,etc) will fit and function properly on an Elan 7NE body? Appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Gerry

Anything EF / EOS will be fine. You can also buy a cheap Nikon: EOS adapter and use them in manual or aperture priority mode.

You can't use the EF-S lenses that work on digital crop sensor bodies.

Any EF mount lens.
Not an FD mount. Not an EFS mount. Not an EF-M mount. Not a rangefinder mount.
EOS refers to Electro-Optical System, which is a more generic description of the system that Canon came up with when they switched from the all mechanical FD system.

That's right. EOS is what Canon typically designates on their camera bodies, beginning with the very first one, the EOS 650 in 1987. The lenses were designated EF.

So, any EOS body from 1987 through today can use any EF lens from 1987 through today. Total compatibility of everything in that time span.

The EF-S and EF-M are different entirely.

Enjoy your 7NE - I love mine.

Seems then any EF/EOS mount lens will work.

Unfortunately NOT true!
There is a bit of inaccuracy in the above statements about 'EF-S', so let me clear it up...
1. Canon-built lenses for smaller format (APS-C) digital camera have an
A) smaller image circle too small for film cameras, and
B) an EF-S lens mount that will not mount on a Canon film camera or FF digital body.
2. Third-party lenses made for smaller format (APS-C) digital cameras have A but not B...(that is, they use a standard EF mount even though the lenses have smaller image circles)
The aftermarket lenses with smaller image circles do not all conform to a common differentiation in format suitability...some are Dii vs Di, another brand calls them DX vs FX, for example. So it is up to the buyer to do a bit of homework about the specific brands and their designations for 'small image circle' lenses.

Any full frame EF lens will work, from 1987 to 2017. Without loss of any feature!!

Thanks again to all for your input. After more thought, I will stick with Nikon. I have 10 mf Nikkors, so will stay on this horse.

Be aware that Nikkor Pre-AI lenses (1959-1977) not fitting at all on 95% of Nikon cameras made since the 80s: FE2, FM2, FA, FG, EM, N2002, N8008, F90, F100 and the list goes on and on

Also take in mind that the latest Nikkor lenses, the ones with the latest optical formulas, will not work at all with all the classic cameras: Nikon F, F2, F3, Nikkormats (all models), FE, FE2, FM, FM2, FM3, FA, FG, the list goes on and on. Because such lenses lack an aperture ring.

Finally, no other lenses can be adapted to work well with a Nikon body. Unlike a Canon EOS body, which will accept M42, Nikon, Pentax K, Leica R, Yashica C/Y, and other lenses with adapters that don't degrade image quality.
