The Canon G11 is a classic known as the walking around camera for professionals. It does snapshots, but offers the full controls that can be put to use by someone who knows what they are doing. So you've got full manual settings, 1/3 step EV adjustments, both aperture- and shutter-priority settings, evaluative, center-weighted and spot metering options, etc. It's got a reasonable f/2.8-4.5 aperture range. It also take movies and does all the normal digital stuff.
The biggest "knock" against it has been what I like best. It is bigger and more traditionally shaped than most digital cameras. I don't like the tiny, thin cameras that don't have a traditional viewfinder. This thing is called a "brick" by some as a complaint; but that's exactly what I like about it. It is comparable in size to a 35mm point-and-shoot and feels good in my hands.
The complaint I've had against this camera is that the results are too good, which has caused me to be lazy about carrying my Nikon system (I shoot almost all color digitally because my film processing is limited to B&W). I was aiming for a good pro system (Nikon) and a good point-and-shoot. But the G11 rivals the Nikon system, so I'm going to let my smart phone become my point-and-shoot to widen the gap.
Read up on the G11 if you're not familiar with is and you'll get a good idea of why it is so popular. This one comes with a leather Canon case that has its own strap, convenient for cross shoulder carrying. Also the box, battery, charger, instructions, TV/AV cord. The camera is in new condition, with perhaps the exception of a very small, faint wipe mark on the glass that covers the lens. I don't think most sellers would think it worthy of mention. The number of total shutter actuations is 1,084. I bought it new in January of 2010.
