Referring to the bayonet mount Canon lens hoods of the past in FD lenses. These hoods have bayonet mount, which I always liked in the idea department. Older hoods had metal parts, then replaced with all plastic with some light colored inserts, apparently to help "lock" the hood in mounted position. In 3 out of 5 hoods I have, these inserts are clearly in a state of "decomposition" and leave sticky residue on the lens' ring every time they are mounted. It appears the problem is well known and linked to the material Canon used.
I doubt there is a fix, but doesn't hurt to ask. Has anyone found a way to get this addressed, short of switching to a screw in hood?
