Just checking to see if i understand what the Canon Manual is saying.
With the PE Screen, they say the Partial Spot is 12%.
This screen is basically comprised of two circles.
.....a split image spot in the center and a surrounding micro-prism collar.
Do those two "Circles" make up the 12% area, or is it the First/Smaller circle that is the split screen portion.?
What i am asking is, when you look in the view finder, is the 12% both of those circles combined or just the circle that holds the split screen.?
Thank You

Nobody knows which circle represents the Spot Meter...?

Based just on my perception of total area, I'd say it's the two circles together that comprise the 12% spot metering area.

The 12% metering area is a rectangle. If you've ever looked trough the viewfinder of the original F-1, the metering area resembles the darkened rectangle you see. "S" screens (spot) for the F-1N measure 3% of the area, while "A" screens are center-weighted.

Here's a site that shows the metering areas. They match the original manual.

From an old Popular Photography magazine test on the F-1N.

Wow...really.?
I must, still, not understand this.
That rectangle, on my F1-New (the PE Screen) looks like it covers much more area than the circle of the Center-Weighted (AE Screen) that is supposed to account for just 60% of the metered light.
You are saying that the rectangle, which also includes Both Of The Circles, is the 12% spot.?

Sorry. Just seeing your pictures now...Thanks

Take a look at the pictures in post #8. I really can't explain it any better than what you see in the pics. The bright areas on the focusing screens are the exact area being measured by the meter (the 12% partial rectangle, the 3% spot, the center-weighted screen).

Sorry, i did not see you previous post, and is definitely more clear than the picture in the manual i have.
For some reason, the metered area seemed a lot bigger than 12%.....but doing a rough guesstimate, i guess it is actually right on the money. Sorry About That.
Thanks Again
