Canon equivalent to the F5 + MF-28?

I'm trying to downsize my gear and trying to decide on either Canon or Nikon. I have some of each (FD, EF, Nikon Ai+/digital), but more EF stuff. But I absolutely LOVE my F5 with the MF-28 back. Is there a Canon equivalent in functionality and quality (specifically in terms of the auto-focus system) to that?

I would expect the Canon Eos 1 series to be the closest match

The direct equivalent of the F5 would be the Canon 1V-HS (which is a 1V with the PB-E2 booster).

However I don't think there is the equivalent of that databack you have for the F5. The 1V will store shooting data in memory which you can then retrieve by connecting it to a computer with the dedicated cable and software. Good luck though finding that kit/cable/software and good luck running that software on a modern computer (but I may be wrong here, anyone with more info can correct me). As far as I know there is no option to imprint data in-between frames.

Seems like the EOS-1v is about as similar as it can get. I know it has interchangeable viewfinder screens, but does it have interchangeable viewfinders? Can it back-button focus?

Viewfinder on 1V is fixed, you can only change the screens. You can set the focus and auto exposure to be on different buttons and yes you can assign a button in the back for AF.

Don't downsize! Keep both systems. I own Canon FD/FL, Canon EF, and Nikon manual focus system (plus two medium format systems) -- that's the way to happiness!!

Seriously, there are some great FD/FL lenses, EF lenses, and Nikon lenses, and losing one of the systems limits you from using a particular lens. I love the FD 135/2.5 for portraits, the FL 19/3.5R wideangle, the EF autofocus versatility, and the Nikkor 58/1.4, 135/3.5, 200/4.0, 35/2.8PC, 20/4.0 lenses for general purpose.
