Canon EOS 3 shutter issue

Hi all, I’ve been sifting through numerous threads in here trying to find somebody with a similar problem to myself. Ive gone to pick up my EOS 3 off the shelf after maybe 2months at most sitting there, I was greeted with a “bc error” that I eliminated by changing the battery. I now have life back in my camera, but...... when I press the shutter button the shutter clicks and the mirrors engage (but don’t release itself). I have to press the shutter button again to release the mirrors. It’s similar to a long exposure. But shutter isn’t set to long exposure speeds. Before people ask, ive tried with and without lenses, tried to clean the contacts as best I could. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar issue with my EOS3, in my case it happened at high speeds ( >1/2000 ) and disappeared somewhat when I exercised the shutter a bit...

It looks very similar to the T90 issue (mine is dead, displayed on a shelf and useless except as a paperweight). for the T90, I had a pro change the shutter once, and the second time, I've got a different advisen, and the guy told me the issue lies in sticky magnets.

I sold my EOS3 for a small amount due to this issue, and the owner seemed happy, but I don't know if he was able to fix the issue.

Sounds like the mirror lock up custom function is engaged. By long exposure do you mean bulb, or have you checked that custom function 12 is set to zero?

Didn't think about the mirror lock-up function. It's definitely worth a check

It sounds like mirror lock-up is active (through custom functions). Check on that and turn it off (the custom function is the same for the EOS 1 and 1N: Cf12 0(off) /1(on), otherwise reset the EOS 3, as one would for the EOS 1, 1N and 1V.

Check also you do not have the 2 second self-timer function engaged (part of the Drive selection menu).

Omg!!!! You people are absolute legends. I’m so grateful for this information. It was the custom function. Was set to 12/1.
