Canon EOS 3 midway-rewind and putting film back to continue from last exposed frame

Hi there,

Is there a way using EOS 3 how to advance film mid-way through to given frame?

Let's give an example, I took 15 frames on film A and then rewind it as I needed to use film B. Once I finished with film B, I have put film A back and wanted to start from frame 16; is there some way how to achieve this?

You probably don't want to hear this, but this is exactly what my Minolta Dynax 7 does without any hassle. You simply dial in the frame number on the back LCD display and it winds forward to the designated frame... I've used this option a lot, switching between different types of film. Curious to know if any other brands like your EOS actually support it too. I haven't read much about this option for motor winded camera's, and yet it is so convenient... I love this option on my camera.

The only way I know is to trigger the shutter as many times as needed (plus one in my case, I prefer losing a frame that doing multiple exposures).

My old EOS 50E could do it, so I don't see why the EOS 3 shouldn't. It's buried in the special parameter thingies somewhere; it's worth consulting a manual. Basically, set the default to 'leave the leader sticking out on rewind' and then there was some kind of mid-film rewind override function, as I recall. Like I said: check a manual. hth.

And keep the lens cap on I guess?, plus one won't help against the multiple exposures otherwise...

No such issue with the Dynax 7, it was designed to this function.

Laurent - how do you do that, keeping lens cap and setting shortest time? Don't pictures get hazy then?

kavandje - yes, I went thru whole manual, I have set leader out on rewind, but haven't found any custom setting to proceed to given frame.

If you haven't got a manual then there is site called buktus which might have the manual you can look at. There is more than the word "buktus" in the correct address and others may know the full address but if no-one responds with the link then googling buktus should get you there.

Yes, you're right, don't forget the lens cap (in my case I also set to 1/4000th and f/22...

To keep the leader out is easy, it's one of the CF functions.

Sorry mAhdi, I did not see you're question. Yes, I set to max speed, smaller aperture and keep the lens cap. I don't do it very often but never saw a fogged picture with this procedure.

When I do this I set the camera (EOS 3) in manual mode with manual focus, smallest aperture and shortest time with the lens cap on. I then trigger the shutter for the number of frames used + 1.

And me. Indeed just did it about two hours ago, just before I read this!. And with my Eos3, which is odd because I almost never use it for anything. My only addition is I always cup the lens cap / end of the lens in my hand, just in case there's a minute light leak around the lens cap that would impact f16 at 1/8000th! But I don't recommend it, it's not necessary.
