I guess there are many Canon EOS 3 and 1V users out there, so maybe someone experienced the same and can advice me what I am doing wrong.
When custom function 11 (CF 11) is set to "2", one has two new behaviors:
First, one can move the active focus field in horizontal direction by the use of the large wheel on the back, with the added benefit that the movement will stop at the outer most fields without to switch into automatic AF field selection. That works great and is a real benefit to me.
Second, the function of the exposure compensation button and the AF field selecting button are interchanged. Now, by pressing the exposure compensation button, one can also use the top wheel to move the AF field selection up and down, plus the large wheel will allow to move the AF fields horizontally like before, but will switch to automatic focus field selection when moving the selection beyond the most outer single AF field. This behavior is actually the standard behavior, just that it's now on the exposure compensation button instead of the AF field selection button, as said before.
However, there is a small but important additional option: a single push on the exposure compensation button should perform a switch from manual AF point selection immediately to automatic AF point selection. This has worked for me the first time I set custom function 11 to the value of "2" for about two or three times. Since then, never again! It does not matter how short or long the button is pressed, it will only allow me to use both wheels to set the AF point manualy, but it will not switch immediately to automatic AF point selection. I already reset all other custom functions, tried various modes and combinations of usage without luck.
Has anybody used that feature extensively can can contribute about what might cause this feature to fail?
