I'm a contax snob making the transition from a contax SLR (i'm keeping my G1 and G2 till i die) to a canon SLR system. I borrowed a friends Canon EF 35mm 1.4 "L", i shot a few rolls of provia and tri-x. I was blown away by how sharp the lens is and it's ability to resolve detail, and again i'm a contax snob so that says a lot.

The "L" 35 is out of my price range, and i see the new 35 f/2 a lot on line. I've read a million reviews, and i've seen the 5D comparison shots between the two. But a few questions remain:

Has any film shooters out there used both lenses? If so, is the f/2 just as sharp as the 1.4? Is the rendering the same? Does anyone have any comparison shots, on film ? And yes, i know comparing a 1.4 to a f/2 is not exactly fair.
